In 2002, the government privatized the lottery and turned it over to the Lotto Samoa Company, indicating the lottery did not generate enough revenue.
In October 2009, the government was still dissatisfied with the revenue being raised by Lotto Samoa and asked the government’s Totalisator Agency Board (TAB) to launch the Samoa National Lotto. The TAB also operates a network for Samoa Sports Lotto Agencies located in retail areas across the country.
Lotto Samoa's license expired in December 2011 and was not renewed.
Through a partnership with technical and marketing company TMS Global, Samoa Sports Lotto Agencies offer access to Australian Tattslotto games including Lotto, Ozlotto, Powerball and Keno.
